Pilgrim Meeting

Tonight the Pilgrims joined in a meeting of the master minds. We discussed dates and were able to thumb tack them down (not nail them to such an exact extent). We discussed our schedule while we would be down there. We also planned our upcoming fundraisers. We are looking forward to some upcoming events including a Holiday tea, a talentless night, a valentines babysitting night, and a band night! We will keep you updated about the specifics of these events! Happy Thanksgiving!

Pie Auction Thanks!

You asked for it. Now here it is!!!
We heard several people make this request, so Christ Episcopal Church is holding
its first ever pie auction on November 24 during adult forum!
The event will be similar to the very popular annual Mother’s Day cake action only…
with pies!

The auction will take place just in time for Thanksgiving. Proceeds will benefit the
youth's pilgrimage to Alabama next summer. We would appreciate not only bidders but
also bakers of pies to be auctioned off. See you there!
For more information, see Kitty or Josie Doss.

Change of Heart

After a lot of thinking, hard work, and planning we have decided to go to Montgomery, Alabama. All of the pilgrims met after school for coffee to discuss a new location. When considering where we wanted to go we thought of places in the United States where we could have some sort of a walk, meditate and do service work. Another reason we chose this new location is because there isn't a language barrier, and it is more affordable. We are planning on going to the Civil Rights Museum, and walking along the Edmund Pettus Bridge, where the Civil Rights movement took place.  Currently we are in the process of choosing prayer partners who will pray for us throughout this process and we will  pray for them as well.

Hokie Parking Profits Pilgrims

Parking nets pilgrims over $400. Thanks to the Hokies  that parked with us and enjoyed the coffee bar provided by the beautiful young baristas.

Pre Rain Parking Crew!

Babysitting  was also very successful. The children were extremely well behaved. They were so quiet we hardly knew they were here. We looked for them in the quiet corner ( a tent set up for indoor camping) and found them missing! Delicious macaroni and cheese was cooked by our eldest, remember, she is 64. We hope even more children join us next time!

Upcoming! September 2013

Upcoming...

On Saturday the 21st the Pilgrims will be hosting a babysitting time during the VT and Marshall game. We will babysit throughout the game and we will rent out parking spaces for money. This is usually a ministry of our Canterbury students and we thank them for giving us the opportunity to raise these funds. Our babysitting offering has been extended to some of our fellow churches on Church St. in Blacksburg. We hope that they join us and we hope that we see some unfamiliar faces along with those that we know! We are really looking forward to this event!

FAQ...

In past events we have been asked why we chose the Dominican Republic as our destination. The answer is that we did cost analysis and we also decided that it was the best use of our time. The places we will be able to travel their are amazing, including the oldest cathedral in the Americas. Sometimes we wonder what all the work is for, can't we be just as spiritual in our own town? But this quote puts it more eloquently than we ever could!

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”

Preparation...

Pilgrims prepared for babysitting by contacting our congregation by personal email, parish email  and through the Sunday bulletin. We have also contacted neighboring worship communities by email, mail  and by phone to invite them to our babysitting event.  We will be prepared for the parking patrons with coffee/ donuts and a smile early on Saturday.

This Week In Sunday School- 9/8/13 "Pilgrims All"

Christ Episcopal Church Blacksburg kicked off our education year, themed "Pilgrims All" with introductions to each pilgrimage that would be happening this year. Our pilgrimage was introduced and we proceeded to our room, staff in hand. This week we shared fellowship through music. We sang some interesting songs! We welcomed two new members who will be aiding in our preparations in the following year. Above we are all pictured! Please leave your comments and keep up with our posts. We will be keeping you updated about upcoming events and past successes.

Past "Productions"

Before designing the concept for this blog we worked on a few fundraising projects. Our first was the Mother's Day Cake auction! In this fabulous event we had parishioners donate their lovely edible creations to our auction. Then a member of the Canterbury ministry at our church did the live auctioning. He talked up each delicious dessert and made us a total of $1100! The Canterbury student got half of the money for a youth exchange that he was participating in, but we got to keep our share and that made a very successful first fundraiser.

Our second project was a Semi-Stealth Car Wash. While parishioners at Christ Church were in Sunday School, Adult Forum, and Church we washed, scrubbed, and rinsed every car in the lot! It didn't matter who they were or why their car was there! And of course we went to 8 o'clock church prior to the wash! Our fundraiser was extremely productive, bringing enough money to surpass our $300 goal!

We want to thank our parish, friends, and family for aiding and participating in our wonderful fundraisers. We can't do it without you guys! Please leave us comments below! We would love to hear your encouragements and thoughts on our project! Thanks a ton and keep watching! There is much more to come!
